South Carolina Senate Confirms Conway Belangia as State Election Commission Executive Director

COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 21, 2026) - The South Carolina Senate has confirmed Interim Director Conway Belangia as the next Executive Director of the South Carolina Election Commission following several hearings held earlier this month.
Belangia brings more than four decades of experience in election administration to the role. Prior to his appointment, he served for 34 years as Director of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections in Greenville County. His career also includes earlier service with the State Election Commission and in Orangeburg County, before Greenville.
During his tenure in Greenville, Belangia was recognized for his leadership and service, receiving the Moore Award from the South Carolina Association of Registration and Election Officials in 2018. In 2026, he was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Henry McMaster, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor.
The Executive Director of the State Election Commission serves as South Carolina’s chief election official and is responsible for overseeing the agency’s daily operations. Director Belangia looks forward to the continued service to the citizens of South Carolina
