South Carolina State Election Commission Recognized with 2024 South Carolina Notable State Documents Award

COLUMBIA, SC (February 21, 2025) – The South Carolina State Election Commission (SEC) is proud to announce that its 2024 Poll Managers Handbook has been selected as a recipient of the South Carolina Notable State Documents Award. This award, presented annually by the South Carolina State Library, recognizes exemplary state publications from the previous year.

"We are honored to be recognized by the South Carolina State Library," said Howie Knapp, Executive Director of the SEC. "Poll managers play a vital role in the success of our elections, and this handbook ensures they are able to serve voters confidently and effectively.”

The Poll Managers Handbook is a critical resource for over 14,000 poll managers who facilitate approximately 300 annual elections in South Carolina. The SEC did a complete overhaul of the handbook to better equip poll managers with the knowledge and resources needed to help ensure a smooth voting process. The updated handbook includes new guidance on voter assistance, emergency protocols, and streamlined instructions for handling key election procedures. It also features infographics and checklists, making it easier for poll managers to navigate complex processes under pressure.

"This handbook is an essential training tool that equips poll managers with the knowledge and tools to efficiently manage their polling locations," said Paige Salonich, SEC Deputy Executive Director and Director of Training and County Support Services. "We are proud to provide this resource to these dedicated workers and have already seen its positive impact in ensuring a smooth voting experience on Election Day."
