South Carolina State Election Commission Selects Next Executive Director
COLUMBIA, S.C. (December 2, 2025) – The South Carolina State Election Commission (SEC) voted unanimously on Tuesday to appoint Jenny Wooten as the agency’s next Executive Director, concluding a two-month appointment process that began in October 2025.
The Executive Director serves as the state’s chief election official and oversees the agency’s day-to-day operations. The position is subject to Senate approval.
Before her appointment, Wooten served as Interim Director and Chief of Staff, leading governmental affairs, policy development, and interdivisional projects. She joined the SEC in 2022 as a policy and outreach coordinator.
Wooten’s state service includes roles at the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, the Attorney General’s Office, and the State Treasurer’s Office, where she oversaw daily operations of the Future Scholar 529 College Savings Program. She also worked as a community outreach and communications liaison for Serve & Connect, an organization that facilitates relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Wooten holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Carolina. She lives in Columbia with her husband and four children.
“Ensuring the impartiality, accessibility, and integrity of South Carolina’s elections is essential to maintaining public faith in our democracy,” Wooten said. “I’m grateful to the Commission for the trust they have placed in me as our agency strives to uphold that mission.”
