The State Election Commission Reports Successful Presidential Primaries
COLUMBIA, S.C. (February 26, 2024) – The State Election Commission (SEC) would like to express its sincere gratitude to all the voters, poll workers, and election officials who helped make South Carolina’s Presidential Primaries a great success. Just under 900,000 ballots were cast in the Primaries and the Republican Primary set the record for most ballots cast in an individual Presidential Primary, breaking the previous record set in the 2016 Republican Presidential Primary.

- Total Ballots Cast – 757,000 (New Record)
- Turnout – 23%
- Democratic Primary Participation
- Total Ballots Cast – 132,000
- Turnout – 4%
- Combined Primary Participation
- Total Ballots Cast – 889,000
- Turnout – 27%
“We are grateful to everyone who dedicated their efforts to ensure that these Primaries went smoothly,” expressed Howie Knapp, Executive Director of the SEC. “South Carolina is among the best in the country at conducting elections and it’s because of the outstanding efforts of our poll workers, election officials, and voters.”
